What Affects Transit Times
🛣️
Route Distance & Geography
Distance is the primary driver. Portugal and southern France are within 1–2 day reach, while Scandinavia and Eastern Europe require 5–7 days. Alpine passes (Mont Blanc, Fréjus, Gotthard) can add 4–8 hours during winter closures.
🛃
Customs & Border Controls
Intra-EU shipments move freely without border stops. UK (post-Brexit) and Switzerland require full customs processing, typically adding 12–24 hours for documentation clearance at Calais/Dover or Basel border points.
📦
Consolidation & Mode
FTL direct loads are fastest — dedicated truck, no intermediate stops. LTL and groupage require consolidation staging at hub warehouses, adding 1–2 days. Express services use priority loading and reduced hub dwell times.
⛽
Driving Regulations
French weekend driving bans (Sat 22:00–Sun 22:00), Italian holiday restrictions, and German Sunday bans affect transit schedules. Austrian Tirol has additional night-time and weight restrictions on the Brenner Pass corridor.
